Katie Kath Illustrator Visits Mull

Katie Kath is a freelance illustrator for children’s books and
specializes in illustration that is geared towards children and children's books and publications. She began the day as part of our MKNN (Mull Kids News Network) news team
and then moved to the gym where she presented a delightful and informative presentation to  our Mustangs this morning as they interacted and talked about who the people are that she works with when illustrating a book. The author, who writes the story, the publishing company editor, who reads the story, the art director, who decides which artist to hire to illustrate the story and the illustrator who creates the pictures for the book.
She also talked about the different parts of the book; the jacket, spine, block, end pages and signature. It was really interesting to hear what a signature is and how a book is prepared for publishing. Katie remarked that although most children's books have 32 pages, the book that Katie recently completed, Come Over to My House by Dr. Suess had many more pages.

Katie Kath also created an imaginary character for the children using their imaginations. She called it a Giraffifant-

which was a mix of an elephant and a giraffe.
The children enjoyed the joy that Katie Kath brought to our school this morning.
They were thrilled to receive her autograph as she signed copies of her newest work,
Come Over to My House" written by Dr. Seuss after the program.
If you would like to see Katie Kath in person, come out to this fun fall event at the Burke County Public Library--It will be kid and family-friendly! Katie Kath will be there to sign the book, Come Over to My House.
