Mustang families celebrated Back to School night at Mull Elementary on Tuesday, Sept. 19th. Our Title I evening theme was Charlotte's Web. Families painted and visited our real pig friend and made pig snouts, shared popcorn together and visited classrooms. Our Title I teacher, Mrs. Happoldt spoke to families about the importance of reading. Each child will receive a copy of Charlotte's Web and the school will be celebrating reading this month through several Charlotte's Web reading activities correlated with this classic novel.

This week our Mustangs focused on folktales.
After reading the story of the Three Little Pigs, students were challenged to build a house out of straw, sticks or brick...and then the big bad wolf (a hair dryer) came and tested the strength of their buildings.

Back to School Family Night

posted Aug 29, 2017, 6:25 AM by Mull Elementary School   [ updated Aug 29, 2017, 6:25 AM ]

Dear Parent/Guardian, August 29, 2017

We are so excited to be able to continue the school book club this year!  Every family will receive a copy of the same book Charlotte’s Web written by E.B. White. We are asking you to read it at home over the next month. We will give the book and a reading schedule on Wednesday, September 20th at school for your child to bring home.

Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader.  This is also a fun and worthwhile family activity.  With this book club we aim to build a community of readers at our school.  Everyone- students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff will be participating and we can all reap the many benefits.

The book club is a novel program in that children at all grade levels will all be listening to the same book.  Strange and daring as that may seen, it actually makes sound education sense.  Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level.  And we also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves.  We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but that will still captivate and stimulate older children.

On our Back to School Night Tuesday, September 19th we will have a special guest “The Purple Pig”! The Purple Pig is a local art studio here in Morganton that specializes in painting wood cutouts. They will be here on the night of the 19th to help the students paint a mini pig in honor of our book Charlotte’s Web. If you would like your child to paint a mini pig on the 19th please fill out the bottom part of this form and send in $5.00 by Tuesday, September 5th.  There will not be any extra mini pigs sold that night due to having to pre-order the cutouts. Please have your child’s order and money in by September 5th!

_____ YES I want to pre-order a mini pig for my child _________________________ to paint on the night of September 19th. I have enclosed the $5.00 with this form.
