Congratulations to Mull Elementary School's Teacher of the Year

posted Dec 20, 2017, 7:48 AM by Deborah Childers   [ updated Dec 20, 2017, 8:08 AM ]

Mrs. Mull was chosen as our Mull Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Mull is currently teaching
second grade and is in her 22nd year of teaching. Mrs. Mull has always taught at Mull Elementary both in the 4th and 2nd grades. In fact, Mrs. Mull attended Mull school as a girl growing up in Morganton. It was in Mrs. Brown's third grade class that Mrs. Mull first began to dream of being a teacher. Mrs. Mull currently teaches in what was her fourth grade classroom many years ago. Mrs. Mull remembers that they had a pet snake named Hairy in her classroom that year. Mrs. Mull is married to Philip Mull and has one son named Garen and they live on a farm nearby which is home to over 16,000 chickens and many pigs.
Mrs. Mull's favorite book is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. This stems from a career choice long ago in which she would either become a teacher or a meteorologist. Mrs. Mull is a self proclaimed weather "geek".
Mrs. Mull earned a degree in Business Administration and then Elementary Education.
Mrs. Mull is AIG state certified and also has her Physical Education License in grades K-12. Mrs. Mull also drives a bus and many  look forward to Mrs. Mull's cooking and baking. She is a woman of many talents.
We are certainly glad Mrs. Mull chose teaching and congratulate her on being this school year's TOY !

Happy Holidays!

Candy Cane Science and Christmas Tree Reading Activities

posted Dec 8, 2017, 6:07 AM by Deborah Childers

Mrs. Mull's Second Grade class conducted a science experiment using candy canes. Using the Scientific Method, they made a hypothesis about what they thought would happen when candy canes were dipped in 4 different liquid solutions. Then they tested their hypothesis and wrote up their conclusion.

In another series of lessons, students in Mrs. Mull's class read the endearing book The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston and completed many reading activities that involved this book.
As a culminating activity, students created their own edible Christmas tree. Seasonal fun and great hands on learning!
